As part of the national knife prevention project, known as operation SCEPTRE, both secondary schools on Canvey Island are working with the community policing team in educating students against knife crime. The community policing team visited both Castle View School and Cornelius Vermuyden School with a knife arch and engaged with students, advising them on how to stay safe. The schools are keen to show the community that both schools are working together to tackle any local issues.

PC Esther Howitt (Children and Young Persons Officer) said ‘It has been great working in partnership with the schools on the Island to raise awareness of knife crime, engaging with the students, to make our community aware of the part we all play within the community’.
