Every year Mrs Parsad and the James Hornsby Maths Department host the ‘primary maths challenge event’ involving nine of the local primary schools including their own year 7 team, the aim being to stretch and challenge the most gifted mathematicians in the area!
Two teams per school enter and comprise the most gifted year 5 and 6 students. There is normally around 110 pupils taking part and is a lovely competitive event with a real buzz around maths!
Mr Parsad said of the event “The aim of our maths challenge is to allow all the pupils in our local primary schools to experience a challenging and enjoyable day of maths. The tasks are centred around problem solving and team work skills based around the key areas of maths, bridging the gap between the KS2 and KS3 curriculum”.
